It may be winter but all the kids at Eket\u0101huna School have been keeping warm by staying active! The brave seniors and a few committed staff members plunged into the arctic temperature of the school pool to raise money for the senior camp at El Rancho at the end of the year. Cool effort! Rugby balls have been shooting through the air! Kids have been getting excited about playing rippa rugby thanks to Cam from Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union who has been visiting us every Tuesday. We\u2019ve been having so much fun! This term you\u2019ll see many taxi drivers (parents and caregivers) driving their kids all over the place because there are so many sports games and practices to get to this term!Lots of kids enjoyed the holidays but there were also a lot who couldn\u2019t wait to get back to school. One of the reasons we were excited about coming back to school was our new playground. All the children have been enjoying playing on the new equipment which was installed during the school holidays. These were the junior classes from Eket\u0101huna School, exploring our town, making maps and making discoveries. Now they are building a 3D town map and sorting photos for a digital project. The Home and School Committee held a really great Golf Tournament which raised money for a new water bottle filling station for students and some extra learning experiences. Everyone also had lots of fun at our school disco which raised money for senior camp. We have done so much already this year! Some of our House Leaders helped out at the Community Lunch at St Cuthbert\u2019s Church a few weeks ago, and the money raised was kindly donated to the school. More recently, all eight leaders harvested food from the community garden, then cooked it for the food bank with Chef Kate. Our Year 2 and 3 students in Hamua explored and mapped our town and enjoyed a special treat at The Lazy Graze. Lisa works at Eket\u0101huna School, runs the fish\u2019n\u2019chip shop, oversees the town swimming pool, and does the rubbish-bin run each night. On top of that, Lisa cleans the Health Centre and weeds the town gardens, while Ryan is a volunteer firefighter. \u201cIt\u2019s good to be busy,\u201d says Lisa, who still finds a way to squeeze in some time at home to bake and decorate cakes. Ryan also juggles his time to fit in some work as a mechanic.
