Firstly let me introduce myself. My name is Richie Day and I have recently started as the Eketahuna Senior Constable, a role that I\u2019m really excited about. I have 21 years Police experience in various roles in Wellington and for the last 14 years I have been policing in the Wairarapa. In my spare time l play competitive tennis for the Opaki Tennis Club, and I\u2019ll be joining the Eketahuna Tennis Club once I get settled. I also keep active by going to F45 daily and hunting deer. I\u2019m also an avid supporter of my two sons cricket and rugby teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My first few weeks in Eketahuna has been interesting. I attended an incident that was a first for me where a shepherd attempted to cull a sheep by straddling it whilst holding a loaded .22 rifle. When he grabbed the sheep\u2019s left ear and went to shoot the sheep in the back of the head, the sheep moved and unfortunately the young man shot himself in the wrist\u2026.ouch! Anyway this just highlights that we must never get complacent around the use of firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police have attended 2 burglaries this month where two motocross bikes and a quad bike were stolen from residential addresses in Eketahuna. All 3 bikes have been recovered. A male linked to the Quad Bike burglary has been charged. I have received 3rd hand information that prowlers have been going onto properties at night in Eketahuna. I can\u2019t stress the importance of calling 111 immediately if you suspect someone is on your property. Put yourself in a burglars shoes, if you \u2018think like a thief\u2019 you will be able to identify signs of security weaknesses in your home. Don\u2019t make it easy for Burglars. I am also happy to visit your home to offer security advice if required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I attended an Arson in Nireaha Road, where an old derelict homestead was set alight and burnt to the ground. Thankfully no one was hurt. This incident is currently being investigated so If anyone has any information regarding then please contact me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
