{"id":5896,"date":"2026-01-24T15:24:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T03:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eketahuna.co.nz\/?p=5896"},"modified":"2026-01-29T10:46:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T22:46:12","slug":"boil-water-notice-eketahuna-town-supply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eketahuna.co.nz\/?p=5896","title":{"rendered":"Boil Water Notice Eket\u0101huna Town Supply"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>24 January 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong> Tararua District Council<\/strong> are issuing a boil water notice for Eket\u0101huna.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent rainfall has increased the amount of sediment (cloudiness) in the river that supplies Eketahuna\u2019s water treatment plant. This has made it more difficult for the treatment process to consistently meet drinking water quality standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At present, the water treatment plant is unable to reliably reduce sediment levels to within the required limits. As a precautionary measure to protect public health, a boil water notice has been put in place until water quality standards can be consistently met again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A letter drop will be conducted today and regular updates on this will be provided through the Council information channels (our webpage, Facebook page and Antenno). We appreciate the communities help to spread this message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Until notified, Eket\u0101huna residents are advised to boil water before using it for:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>drinking (including making of sachet juice\/drinks);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>making ice;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>food preparation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>brushing teeth; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>preparing infant\/toddler formula.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Electric jugs with a cut-off switch can be used as long as they are full \u2013 allow the water to come to the boil and wait for it to switch off (do not hold the switch down to increase the boiling time). Water can also be placed in a clean metal pan and brought to a rolling boil for one minute. Boiled water should be covered and allowed to cool in the same container.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, pregnant women, and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.
