Borough Chambers and Shell Station shot during the 125th Anniversary Celebrations with RNZAF Base Ohakea Band on parade in 1998. The Borough Chambers Replaced the Municipal Building which was badly damaged in the 1942 earthquake.
The Shell Station and garage fire 2001 destroyed both petrol station and garage and damaged La Café.
After the refusal of Shell, and the other multinational fuel companies, to reinstate the petrol station the community got together, raised funds and bought the station!
