After the disappointment of not having an ANZAC Service with the Mounted Rifles Guards at the Memorial Bridge last year, the Friends of the ANZAC Bridge are looking forward to holding their Service this year on ANZAC Day.
There will be horses attending thanks to the organiser Denise Clifton and the service will commemorate what the service horse did in WWI. NZ Pacific Studio ANZAC Fellow, Esther Bunning will present her project through the eyes of some local school children.
The service will begin at 2pm with local Bagpipers playing a lament and the local Cadets will form a guard of honour.
A Defence Force historian will give an address about horses in WWI. Family members of the local men and woman, who are memorialised on the Bridge, will place floral tributes as a gesture of remembrance.
Local dignitaries will be present and a large crowd of locals and family members will attend, depending on the weather of course. If it is too wet to hold the service at the bridge, it will be held at Pukaha. Afternoon tea will be at Pukaha after the service
