The Eketahuna Lions Club instigated the Alf Rowden Humanitarian Award as a tribute to the Late Alf Rowden (died 1983) for his contribution to Eketāhuna over many years.. When the Eketāhuna Lions Club went into recess in 1994, Promotions Eketāhuna was asked to take over the award.
The judges would be looking for those who have made a great contribution to the area in a humanitarian way. The winner need not necessarily be a public figure. Particular consideration is to be given to those who have contributed in a “quiet” manner.

Congratulations to Rena Tyler the 2020 winner of the Alf Rowden Humanitarian Award.
