We heard from a member of the public during Public Forum of their concerns regarding the camera’s on the back of the Council Building and whether they have blind spots, and about the leave of absence for Board Member Terry Carew, and also who is responsible for the maintenance of the lime track and sports equipment at the Rugby Club – Eketāhuna Our Town are responsible for the track and the maintenance is done by a volunteer.
After studying extensive legislation on how we are to approach the Leave of Absence request from Board Member Terry Carew, we chose to follow the legislation that allows Terry to attend meetings via Zoom and be contactable via email to enable him to continue to do his job as a Board Member. Therefore, his request was denied.
We are sending a letter to the Tararua District Council voicing our concerns that the pedestrian crossing on State Highway 2 needs upgrades to be more visual. Also, that the Waiwaka Bridge south of Eketahuna is too narrow and consequently dangerous for wide vehicles. Tararua District Council can then forward this to NZTA.
We are also asking Tararua District Council, on behalf of the Eketahuna RSA, permission to erect a second flagpole to be used at ANZAC Day services. The cost would be met by RSA Member Mr Rex Hawes along with a plaque in memory of his late wife Christine.
The General Assistance Grants Scheme is now open and there are application forms at the Eketāhuna Service Centre. These Grants are for financial assistance for locally recognised community groups. Applications close on the 18th March 2024.
