Many thanks to those that attended Te Whare Ora o Eketāhuna – Eketāhuna Health Centre AGM on 19 September. Annual accounts ending June 2024 show single digit increases on total income and expenditure with large increases in computer costs and community garden development. We grateful for donations from local organisations that have enabled computer upgrades, and to Ministry of Social Development for grants that have enabled the installation of a water tank.
Sadly, we said farewell to our treasurer of over 15 years, Ross Terry. We are truly indebted to Ross for his commitment to our organisation. David Kinzett was re-elected as Chair, Rena Tyler as Secretary, Graham Nelson and Joe Sweeney remain on our executive board and they are joined by Mel Corlett and Jake Holland. The voluntary office of treasurer is open; if you have a accountancy skills and a passion for rural health and well-being, we would love to hear from you.

With spring equinox now passed, we hope more of our community will be choosing to grow their own vegetables this year. Please get in touch if you would like to learn some basics or attend our community working bee on third Thursday of every month. Next on Thursday 17 Oct 10am -12pm. Many thanks to Kat and Ali Richardson for their continued support, to Antoinette Lambert for materials for our new crop circle and to Sara Hilhorst for the horse manure which has been rotting down in the growing beds ready for planting. Big thanks to Gordon Hanson for clearing the orchard area of the garden. The fruit trees are now getting a lot more light. Thank you to Brigitte and Mair for planting a lemon tree for us.
The popular Community Crop Swap is third Sunday, Sunday 20 Oct 10.30am. Please ensure you bring something garden related to swap.
Eketāhuna Food Bank can provide kai assistance to those living in Eketāhuna. Call or text Emma on 021 250 3015 to access this service. If you have homegrown produce to share, there is a pataka kai at the back of the health centre. Many people are feeling the pinch so please think of others when taking from the pataka kai.
With thanks for your continued support
