Eketāhuna Community Board September Meeting

A few notes from our recent meeting: We met Malcolm Alexander, TDC’s temporary Chief Executive.
We discussed the Discretionary Grant Fund Applications. It was reported that there was no funding to improve the safety of the Nireaha/Priest Road intersection.

We are writing to TDC to make it clear that we are not happy with that answer.
Also to request a report of the different safety upgrade options that our community can consult on to be part of a future plan.

We are drafting a letter to Horizons Regional Council regarding river bank erosion on the Mangatainoka River near 110 Mangatainoka Valley Road. In recent years it has been repaired three times in the same area at a large cost. Each repair is then washed away in the first flood. With each repair not being done properly it is costing the local ratepayers over and over.

We requested that the picnic table from the War Memorial grounds be repaired or replaced ASAP. We are asking Council to look at the quality of the grading of Pori Road. It has been suggested by local residents that it isn’t done properly, including the water table, resulting in faster erosion and damage.

We received a reply from NZTA regarding our request for speed limit signs for the Manawatu Tararua Highway. We are writing back to say that we don’t accept them saying no. The four-lane highway currently has no speed signs on it. Police have reported a decent number of speeding tickets being issued on a daily basis. We don’t think it is an unreasonable request as NZTA have an electronic billboard already in place that could be utilised for little cost.
