A Few Notes from the November Eketāhuna Community Board meeting, being the first for the new
term:
We heard from Terry Carew and Charlie Death about the need to move the flagpole at the RSA
Cemetery.
We noted a lack of response from NZTA regarding our request to have the speed limit displayed on
the new Manawatu Tararua Highway.
We acknowledged the response from Horizons Regional Council regarding the erosion of the
Mangatainoka river and will keep pursuing information on this issue.
We are still waiting for options on improving safety at the Priest Road-Nireaha Road intersection.
We acknowledged letters of thanks from the Eketāhuna Museum and Eketāhuna Health Centre.
I attended a Rural Support event at the Nireaha Hall following the significant weather event. Funding
was able to be secured to help with fence repairs. I also learnt that it can be possible to make a 111
call on your mobile during an emergency without cell phone service. The process involves another
provider that does have a working cell tower to pick up the call. You may need to wait about 30
seconds for this to happen and your call will go through.

NB: the Antenno App is a great way to receive notifications from Council – from Civil Defence Alerts to
Recycling/Rubbish Day Reminders to d Closures. There is also a feature that you can use to report
issues such as pot-holes, blocked drains, etc, or to provide feedback and ideas to your Council
